Okay, I have been on antibiotics since Feb. 28.
I ended up at a Doc in the Box on Thurs. 2/28 and spent $115 for him to say, "Yep. Infection. You need to see a surgeon, since due to location of infection, I can't treat this here."
Gave me a scrip for Augmentin and that's
not one of the cheap/freebie antibiotics, oh no.... that was like $145 for just 10 days worth!
So, I go see a surgeon - Dr. Patricia Limpert on Monday 3/3. She says, "Oh, we can take care of this in office! We'll just do a local and lance the infection, then do a biopsy just to be certain that the hardness is not cancer."
I ended up w/ like a 3/4 in long incision that is deeeeeeep into the side of the adipose tissue up front on the chest - right where the underwire for an over the shoulder boulder holder would go.
Doc then put me on Bactrim - hooray! FREE antibiotic this time! For a MONTH. Yes. she put me on it for a MONTH. First follow up visit is that Thursday the 7th, she adds in Clindamycin, again for a MONTH. 3 pills at a time for four times a day, again for a MONTH.
Bad news, Clindamycin is not on the freebie list, but gal at Schnuck's pharmacy works the computer so I can get it for $50. Hoorah. That's better than Wally which would have been over $100 again.
Go back on Friday, this time for the Evil One to get instructions on cleaning and packing the wound. I can't do it because a) I'm a lefty and b) location of the wound is way over on my right side and c) just the thought of dealing w/ that mess - oh yuck.
Over the weekend, the high dosage of Clindamycin starts doing exactly as warned - digestive issues. I tough it out until Monday, go back to see doc & she takes me down to 2x/day on that drug. I still get the acid reflux from hell on occasion, but it's not constant.
Go back this past Monday and she's all pleased w/ the way things are progressing. She sees the swelling, hardness, and redness from the infection all receding and doesn't think that more surgery (this time general anesthetic, for total debriding ) will be necessary and says, "Hey, if incision closes, no worries. I think you should be fine w/o having to reopen and continuing to pack the wound. Come back in 2 weeks."
Evil One is still leary... he thinks that the incision should stay open to allow for more draining and for internal wound check progress, but we will see.
In the meantime, I am popping 3 Clindamycin, 1 acidophilus, and 1 bactrim in the morning, and then, repeating the Bactrim and Clindamycin at night.
So, what started all this off? A spider bite. A flipping spider bite that healed over and instead of ejecting the bacteria from the bite, the bacteria went deep into the tissue and started this whole massive infection.
I hate spiders more than ever now. I so need to clean more out of my apartment and take more clothes off to like Good Will & Loving Hearts, but that will have to wait until after next week - I am off to Memphis on Weds. for 5 days. It's Midsouth Con!
Today, however, I am going to hit Fashion Bug for some over the shoulder boulder holders and maybe a pair of jeans. 1 of 4 stores I'm going to hit will have to have jeans I like, that fit right! Fashion Bug, Wally, Avenue, and maybe head up to Lane Bryant at like West Co. Mall... I don't know. It all depends on how I feel. My head is so stuffed up right now from the super high mold count (Gee, SIX INCHES of rain in 36 hours?!) that I can't breathe.
Ugh. I hate allergies.
And there you have it.... this is what's been consuming my life for the last few weeks. A spider bite of all things!
